MEMORANDUM NO. ILCD MFRM 26 - 003 - Scheduled UVLe System Transition and Maintenance

by UVLê Admin - Thursday, 11 June 2026, 5:06 PM

We would like to inform the University community that the University Virtual Learning Environment (UVLe) will undergo scheduled server maintenance and system transition from June 12, 2026 to June 15, 2026.

In line with Memorandum No. ILCD-MFMR-25-005 - Launch of the New UVLe, the current UVLe ’22 platform, accessible at uvle.upd.edu.ph, will be transitioned to the newer UVLe ’26 platform, currently accessible at bagong-uvle.upd.edu.ph. Please note that users of UVLe ’22 need not be concerned, as access to UVLe ‘22 will remain unaffected throughout and after the transition. Upon completion of the transition, UVLe ’26 will become the University’s official Learning Management System (LMS), and the following changes will take effect:

During the maintenance period, UVLe ‘26 will be unavailable to all users.

We would also like to inform everyone that the CRS Integration is currently unavailable due to the upgrades that were done to CRS. As a result, automatic synchronization of courses, class lists, and enrollment data between CRS and UVLe is temporarily unavailable. We are still in the process of fixing this issue.

To assist users in preparing for UVLe ‘26, migration guides, training materials, and tutorials highlighting the platform's key features and enhancements are available through the Tutorial Courses menu.

Additional information regarding the final maintenance schedule will be released prior to the maintenance activity.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to provide a more reliable and enhanced learning environment for the University community.

We are also pleased to announce the official launch Kolektibong Online Network para sa Edukasyon at Komunikasyon or KONEK accessible at https://konek.upd.edu.ph, the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Open Learning Management System (Open LMS).

KONEK is an open, community-powered learning platform inspired by UP Diliman’s UVLe. With just an email address, anyone can explore curated courses, learning objects, and resources created by educators across the Philippines, and learn anytime, anywhere, at their own pace.

The UP Diliman community is invited to explore and utilize KONEK as part of the University's continuing commitment to innovation, lifelong learning, and knowledge sharing.

For inquiries and assistance, please contact us through the ILCD Helpdesk at https://helpdesk.ilc.upd.edu.ph.

by UVLê Admin - Monday, 2 February 2026, 3:53 PM

UVLe ‘26 (https://bagong-uvle.upd.edu.ph/), the updated UVLe platform, ILC Diliman will be conducting a series of training sessions to guide our users to adapt to our new and improved learning management system.

The tutorials will be conducted face-to-face with 3 repeat sessions for both topics. Each tutorial session is limited to a maximum of 30 participants only and registration will be on a first-come-first-served basis. We encourage colleges/departments to send at least one (1) representative to each of our seminar topics.

For more information about the training, please refer to the following link: Memorandum No. ILCD MFMR 26-001: Training Schedule for UVLe ’26

We hope to see you in our tutorials!

UVLe unexpected extension to scheduled downtime

by Miguel Remolona - Tuesday, 26 August 2025, 2:04 PM
Something broke again.

For the summary of the break:

Redis (faster reliable logins) Database data up to date No more session timeouts (UVLe usable)
24-Aug    8pm Yes No Yes
25-Aug    9am No Yes No
25-Aug    8pm No No Yes
26-Aug    1pm No Yes Yes

For those that want to learn more or are curious about devops:

The scheduled downtime introduced a new problem that we haven't encountered before in UVLe as the administrators of the platform, we couldn't log in. Since UVLe is encrypted especially in user sessions and login credentials, we couldn't do much during the first day that it happened. We essentially we're debugging with half the tools that we could use before. So that was Friday. We tried multiple ways to solve the issue, but none of them worked. (https://docs.moodle.org/500/en/Session_handling)

Saturday, we essentially read through forums and fixes to try to figure out what was wrong with our system. This was when we took down access to UVLe by restricting network access to limited use. Take note that everything is backedup before any action is taken, and if the action doesn't work, we revert to a previous backup to ensure that the error doesn't pile up. This takes a lot of time.

Sunday was when a breakthrough happened, one of the devs were able to login after following in one of the forums (forgot the link) and from there, he worked his way to changing the session handling. However, the data that was retained was from Aug 15, everything after was removed. Sunday, night, we tried recovering one of the backup databases to no success.

Monday morning, a backup of the database last Thursday was loaded and it had the correct data, up to Aug 21. However, the login issue persisted with this database (telling us that we only knew half of the issue and only solved that half). Monday afternoon, starting from Sunday night's database, a database recovery was conducted. However, the recovery from the primary database still resulted in data from August 15. Monday night, changes were done to the database cluster to ensure that the correct data will be restored.

The restoration finished 1pm today (as the restoration died sometime around 2am and was only restarted at 6am). And this is the current UVLe. We'll be launching a new one with better updates and UI sometime this semester. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for the inconvenience.

Best,

ILCD
